ACC Bishops Release Statement on the Resumption of Executions
The Bishops of the Arizona Catholic Conference (ACC) have just released a joint statement opposing the resumption of executions in Arizona after nearly eight years. The statement may be read in its entirety at www.azcatholicconference.org.
With the next execution currently scheduled for May 11th, the bishops in each diocese are also encouraging participation by the faithful in several events leading up to this date.
In the Diocese of Tucson, Bishop Edward Weisenburger will be hosting a holy hour for his diocese on Wednesday, May 4th at 6:00 p.m. at Our Lady’s Chapel at St. Augustine’s Cathedral. Additionally, Bishop Weisnburger will lead a national prayer vigil on Friday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. in conjunction with the Catholic Mobilizing Network. With regard to the Diocese of Phoenix, Bishop Thomas Olmsted will lead a prayer vigil on Tuesday, May 10th at 6:30 p.m. at St. Simon and Jude Cathedral. Please join the Sisters of Life and other diocesan leaders as we pray for all involved with the death penalty and the end of this practice.
Finally, Bishop James Wall is asking all of the parishioners in the Diocese of Gallup to pray a rosary this week for this intention. He will also lead a rosary for these intentions on Saturday, May 7th at 8:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart.
